Junction distances around Wellington in NZ

This is a chart I made up when I was looking after tie lines and Special Projects such as putting in temporary services for telethons, elections, etc. It was handy to have the distances to determine circuit losses as PCM was only just starting to get installed on junctions and things like audio programme circuits needed a wider bandwidth than VF so couldn't go PCM anyway. It shows how close the exchanges were to each other. Most of the satellites had less than 10,000 subscribers with some considerably fewer. Wellington Central at the northern end of the city, Courtenay Place at the southern end of the city, Lower Hutt to the north East and Porirua to the north west were all tandems. There was an additional exchange off Porirua called Whitby Hut which was an NEC NEAX remote. From memory Answer Services was a service where doctors could have their calls answered and other numbers given out. Seekers was a paging service and Intelex was a telex service. Belmont and Upper Hutt North which is close to the base of the Rimutaka mountain range have no distances because I couldn't find them at the time and never had to get circuits to them.
