AECo Cutaway Dial

From time-to-time a question comes up regarding the reason behind the AECo cutaway finger wheel. According to AECo catalog 4055-D, it is intended to cast more light on the numbers, presumably in low light areas. More light is admitted because of the cutaway portion, plus, the underside of the finger wheel is coated with while enamel to better reflect light on the numerals. It appears that ease of cleaning the number plate was an additional benefit. Thanks- Steve C.
