Panel - Subscriber Link Frame

Pictured is a Panel Link Frame (1933). It was involved in the call from the time the Sender started and you heard dialtone until call setup was completed. During call setup it sat between the Sender and the District. This was a strange frame indeed. In the middle of the picture you will note a row of clutches, banks, selector rods and the commutator bank. On this frame the selector rods had weights to help them move faster. From the bottom up you can see one bank with each rod having a brush and weight. This frame would allocate the next available District selector and with the other rod hunt for an idle Sender. Hard to see but at the top of the fourth bay there are a couple of 206 type rotary switches.
