In 1988, the original British made Summerside, PEI Strowger switch shown below was replaced by a Nortel DMS-100 electronic switch. The new switch took up less than 10% of the space taken by the original switch, and was silent compared to the din created by the older mechanical switch. DMS-100's are still in use in many exchanges across the Island. Dave. |
